The collections don’t go into the household inventory, but when the collection in that row is completed, you will be rewarded with unlocked items, exp, or simoleons.
And the rewards for completing the whole collection vary, and depending on the limited time event that is currently in progress, you have the chance to get items that won’t be released elsewhere in the game.
Practicing a new hobby will make your Sim forget the hobby they already have (meaning the hobbies don’t stack), therefore choose the right Sims to complete the collection if you wish to keep the old hobby.
